Club 25 Golf entered a team into this year’s Vega Baja League because many of our members wanted to play competitive league golf. We have started in the Championship League because we wanted to try and gain promotion to the Premiership and not get into it by default.
Well after 3 games we are off to a great start, our first match was played at La Serena in October where we came up against The Clapton’s Golf Society we were on our old course so we were expecting a good result here and we got one, winning 3 games and losing one, this gave us the bonus points and put us into second place in the League with 12 points and just one point behind the leaders St James Gate Golf society.
Then off to Peraleja for the second game in November, we held an away day there a week before the match and this proved to be a great decision because we won three games and got a draw in the other one against La Manga Golf Society, this gave us 13 points and shot us to the top of the league with 25 points, 4 points clear of Mar Menor Golf Society in second place.
In December we went to Alicante Golf and played against the new entrants to the league Lo Maribu, this was a tough match with one game going down the 18th 1 up and managing to secure the first 3 points, the following two pairs both won the 3 points as well and it was all down to the final pair Tommo and Ronnie who had been 5 down after 11 holes. They made a great come back to be going down the 18th hole just 1 down and won the hole getting us a fantastic half out of the game giving us another 13 points. We are now 10 points clear at the top of the table with St Jamess Gate in second place and Mar Menor in third place. Our next game is on the 20th January against Mar Menor at Hacienda Riquelme.
